Jon Crocker is a member of Big History UK. He runs a very small (about 30 students in total) independent boarding school in Berkshire for international students. They range in age from 13 to 18 and come from a number of different countries including China, Russia, Kuwait, Brazil, France, Italy, Spain, Germany and Japan so none of them are native English speakers.
“It is interesting because this means we have diverse cultures and perspectives within our community,” Jon says. “Although some are here to take traditional GCSE and A-level exams, there are others who come here as a first experience of UK education and to gain all round academic awareness and study skills. Big History seems to offer a wonderful opportunity to expose them to a wide variety of subjects, draw on different cultural aspects and hone their core skills of reading and writing. We are due to launch from September into the unknown and it is very exciting.”
